New evidence presented on Wednesday 15th May 2013 at the European Wound Management Association (EWMA)’s conference in Copenhagen, revealed that elevated protease activity (EPA) was detected in almost half the wounds (43%) that resulted in skin graft failure1.

In the thirty patient study carried out and presented by Prof. Franck Duteille MD, Head of Department of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, University Hospital, Nantes, France, three out of four (75%) split thickness skin grafts failed in wounds that tested positive for EPA immediately prior to performing the graft procedure1 . The 1st SEHA Upper Limb Surgery Update Programme is being held in conjunction with the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit in the UK, a specialist referral centre that receives patients from across Europe for expert opinion and the treatment of difficult to manage problems.

HCT and SKMC entered into the agreement to formalize their willingness to collaborate as effective contributors to the professional development of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, and the UAE as a whole.

The parties envisage this aim being facilitated by providing professional learning, development and research, which will support the growth of SKMC employees, as well as create career opportunities for HCT students.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology and Mr. Fred De Grandis, Chief Executive Officer of SKMC.

AHS will also release two interactive Salem comic books this month featuring stories, activities and puzzles on dental hygiene and sports. More than 60,000 copies of the comic books will be distributed to school children in grades one to five across 112 public schools, during AHS community events, and at AHS centers and SEHA facilities in Abu Dhabi.

Salem is a young Emirati boy who is keen to learn and live a balanced life. The character was introduced to the community during Ramadan 2012 to promote health and shed light on essential topics amongst children and their families. Ferring Pharmaceuticals today announced it has initiated enrolment of patients in two phase III clinical trials of elobixibat for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC), a common gastrointestinal disorder affecting approximately 14% of the general population1. The two studies, Echo 1 and Echo 2, will be conducted at close to 200 sites worldwide and will enrol nearly 1700 patients.
